Bottle Cap Rockets Bio

Singer/songwriter and guitarist Al Gross has been fortunate enough to sell a number of his works to Universal Music. Al’s songs have been placed in several major movies including the academy award winner “Monster” starring Charlize Theron along with placements in popular TV shows that include “Monk”, “The Osbournes” and “Cold Case”.

In late 2009 Al started writing songs for a solo project. Demo’s were created and a band was quickly assembled, then reassembled. 14 shows have been performed around New Jersey and a 7 song EP is slated for release by late June early July 2012. Bass player & backing vocalist Chris Wolfer joined the group in September 2011. In May of 2012 drummer Yuergen Renner became a member. Yuergen was the drummer for The Cucumbers, a Hoboken band that appeared on MTV several times during the prime Music Television years.

Bottle Cap Rockets is all about GUITAR driven rock. There’s a vintage feel but the band has it’s own fresh sound. Some songs have a Roots Rock flavor while others travel in a Bluesy direction. There’s also some British Pop influences as well. It takes some confidence to rip away the layers of complication in a world where this style of music has been left out in the cold for far too long. Bottle Cap Rockets practice the philosophy of “less is more.” This three man band needs to be enjoyed LIVE.

Bottle Cap Rocket’s EP reviewed by Mike Dillan (“renown” Music blogger)

Bottle Cap Rocket’s EP reviewed by Mike Dillan (“renown” Music blogger)………………….Not for nothing, but the new Bottle Cap Rockets EP is balls-out fantastic. I’ll spare you a Christgau-esque deconstruction, but lemme just say I was really impressed: smart playin’, excellent vocals (the band obviously spent great care on this), nice arrangements. The songs are tight, and the production really makes them pop. Plus, the chord change during the hook of “Laurel” would’ve made Dwight Twilley jealous. Or at least Marshall Crenshaw. (Which is not to say that’s the only great hook on the record - not by a long shot.)

And while I realize Bottle Cap Rockets recorded it in New Jersey, I’d place this platter among some of the great STRONG ISLAND rock efforts of all time. Specifically, BOC’s “Tyranny and Mutation” and “Tasty” by the Good Rats. I ain’t lying. This may even be Vagrants-level stuff!
